  • Identification

For the safety of our patrons, a USciences ID card is required to enter the library building. During our hours of service, doors are opened by swiping your ID card. Those who do not have a USciences ID card, or whose card will not open the door, are responsible for securing the replacement or repair of their card.

    Food and Drink

Food is not permitted. Covered beverages are allowed. Wilson Dining Hall and Starbucks are nearby, and offer food and space for dining.

    Silent Study

On the request of the Student Government Association (SGA), the library's third floor is reserved for silent study. Please be respectful of others' need for quiet when using this floor of the library. If noise levels are excessive, you may alert a library employee at the Circulation or Reference desks on the first floor. (Please be aware that during some hours of service, appropriate staff members may not be present to provide assistance.)

    Acceptable Use of Library Resources

J.W. England Library provides electronic books, journals and databases to the University of the Sciences faculty, students and staff only for educational, research, and related non-commercial purposes. United States copyright law and publisher licenses govern their use.

    Generally, you may:

    • View, copy, download, print, and save articles and search results.
    • Use these resources in teaching, coursework, and research.
    • Share an article or its URL with USciences students, faculty, and staff.
    • Cite small parts of the content in published research.

    Normally, you may not:

    • Systematically download or distribute large amounts of the library’s licensed content.
    • Use the library’s electronic resources for personal or commercial gain.
    • Provide access to the library’s electronic content to non-USciences users or share passwords or other log-in information with those not affiliated with USciences.
    • Publicly post any of the library’s licensed electronic content on the Web or elsewhere.

For more complete terms of use, check the publisher’s or vendor's website.  When in doubt, contact us via Ask-A-Librarian.

    Checking Out Books

    • Students may check out books from the circulating collection for 4 weeks, with one renewal. All materials must be returned at the end of the current semester.
    • Full-time faculty may check out books until the end of the current semester. Part-time faculty may borrow books for one month.

Students and faculty can use E-ZBorrow to request books that USciences does not own directly from 50 other academic libraries. To check out books, you'll need a valid USciences ID card. For questions, or to renew materials, please call Circulation at 215 596-8960.

    Unreturned Books

Books that are not returned to the Library after repeated notifications to the patron will be billed as follows:

     Science Books

     Non-Science Books

Processing Fee (Additional, for ALL items)

    • The Library reserves the right to adjust or raise the replacement amount in accordance with the value of the book.

    • Replacement copies may not be supplied by the patron.

    • Failure to return books or pay replacement fees will result in suspension of Library privileges.  A hold will also be placed on USciences academic records until the matter is resolved.
