The J.W. England Library provides access to current news and historical newspaper collections via the LexisNexis Academic and ProQuest databases.
Searching Newspapers in LexisNexisAcademic
Each of the following links opens a pre-selected, targeted search of the newspaper within LexisNexis Academic:
A variety of other newspapers can also be searched through LexisNexis
Academic. We recommend following these steps when searching:
- Access LexisNexis
- Expand the Search by Subject or Topic dropdown menu, which can be found just above the main Academic Search field.
- Choose All News.
- Before you enter your keywords and search, it is recommended to limit your search fields. To do this, expand the Advanced Options dropdown menu and then use the dropdown under Build Your Own Segment Search. Experiment by inserting your keywords into fields like “Headline”, “Lead” or “Subject” so as to focus your search by removing less-relevant result.
Searching Newspapers in ProQuest
Each of the following links opens a pre-selected, targeted search of the newspaper within ProQuest:
Pittsburgh Post-Gazette (Historical Collection, 1786-2003)
The Philadelphia Inquirer (Historical Collection, 1860-2001)
Wall Street Journal
Other newspapers can also be searched through ProQuest. Choose "Newspapers" under the Source Type filter either before or after you search, and results will be limited to newspaper content.
