Class Assignments

Walk-in reference assistance is available without an appointment during the semester from 9:00am to 5:00pm, Monday through Friday, with extended hours until 7:00pm on some weekdays (call 215 596-8967 to check availability). You can also visit Ask A Librarian to submit your question online or browse our knowledge base of past answers.

Place a Book on Reserve

To request that the Library purchase a new title or updated edition, please complete a Reserve Request Form (one per title). You may place your personal materials on Reserve by bringing them to the Circulation Desk between 9:00 am and 4:00 pm, weekdays.

If you have books on Reserve from a previous semester, you will receive a list detailing these titles via email. Please indicate whether you would like the Library to retain or remove these from Reserve. The library receives about 200 print periodicals which are shelved alphabetically on the second floor, and over 11,000 electronic ones are available on the campus network. See Our Journal List/e-Book List (Before searching journals, make sure the "Journals" tab is selected. Click it if you are not sure).

Fulltext and Databases

The library is committed to adding electronic resources so that you have a library available on your desktop. Databases include Medline, PsycINFO, ERIC, CINAHL, Project Muse and SciFinder Scholar (Chemical Abstracts). There are links to the Fulltext in each of these. Call the Reference Desk for help in using any of these (x8967).

Online Literature Searching

Checking Out Books

Full-time faculty may check out books until the end of the current semester. Part-time faculty may borrow books for one month. You can use E-ZBorrow to request books directly from 50 other academic libraries.

To check out books you'll need a valid USciences ID card. If you wish to borrow Library materials before you receive your ID card, we will create a temporary Library registration for you that will be good for one month. Just bring any photo-ID to the Circulation Desk. For questions, or to renew materials, please call Circulation at 215 596-8960.

Book Purchase Requests

A good library collection results from the collaboration of the library faculty and faculty in each department. To foster a close relationship, a librarian has been appointed to serve as a liaison to each department. While the departmental liaison is responsible for final selection, your input is essential. Please use the Book Request Form; it will go automatically to your liaison. For the full list of departmental liaisons, please go to our Liaisons page.

Printers, Scanners & Photocopiers

  • Multifunction photocopiers can be used to scan documents in in both B&W and color at no charge. Files can be sent to an email address, or saved to USB storage media. There is one unit per floor on the first and second floors.
  • The multifunction photocopiers provide copying in B&W only, and are activated by swiping your USciences ID card through the attached card reader. Each copy costs $0.09 per page and is deducted from your ONECARD balance.
  • There are three printers each on the first and second floors. All printers provide B&W and color printing, with both single-page and duplex options available. Print jobs are released by entering your USciences username/password, and require ONECARD funds.
  • ONECARD funds may be added (and balances checked) either online or via the kiosk located in the lobby of Wilson Hall.

Note: It has been our policy to offer copycards (good for up to 300 copies per calendar month) to full-time faculty members. Due to changes in university copier control and ID cards, we cannot offer copy cards at this time. Full-time faculty members who need to make copies should inquire at the Circulation Desk.

Part-time faculty should consult with Access Services personnel.

Obtaining Materials from Other Libraries

Books and journal articles not owned by this library may be requested through our interlibrary loan services, ILLiad (for article requests) and E-ZBorrow (for book requests). There is co charge to fulltime faculty for these services. See the Library's Interlibrary Loan policies for more information.

It is always best to make and monitor requests for materials through your personal ILLiad account. However, if you wish to have requests placed by proxy (i.e. by staff or student workers through a personal or departmental account), please keep in mind the following:

  • Have the article requested only once.
  • To ensure that the article is delivered to the correct person, include faculty member's name and correct email address in "Notes" field on the ILLiad request form.
  • When RUSH requests are placed by proxy, the faculty member will be contacted by phone to verify that RUSH is necessary, as the library incurs additional expense for this service.

Using Other Libraries

You have borrowing privileges at Drexel University libraries. You may use the University of Pennsylvania libraries but you may not borrow books from them (except through E-ZBorrow) unless you have some special affiliation with Penn or purchase a library card.

In addition you may use and check books out of the libraries at 35 other local college who belong to TCLC with a letter of introduction from us.

Silent Study

On the request of the Student Government Association (SGA), the library's third floor is reserved for silent study. Please be respectful of others' need for quiet when using this floor of the library. If noise levels are excessive, you may alert a library employee at the Circulation or Reference desks on the first floor. (Please be aware that, during some hours of service, appropriate staff members may not be present to provide assistance.)

Reimbursement for Photocopies Elsewhere

If you photocopy library materials at another library and if we do not own the materials, we will reimburse you for your costs (fulltime faculty). Pick up a reimbursement form for each article at the Circulation Desk on weekdays between 9:00 am and 4:00 pm.
